Five Things You May Not Know About Me!

I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was in Kindergarten. There was no apparent reason as to why I was the "lucky" one in my family, but I believe that having to take care of myself in this way at a very young age is what made me the responsible, driven, adult that I am now.

I may "beep" from time to time (due to my insulin pod or my constant glucose monitor that I wear) or you may find me shoving candy bars in my mouth in efforts to get my blood sugar up, but other than that, I am a normal 26 year old!

When your job starts at 7:30am you kind of have to be a morning person; especially for the crazy people like me who get there an hour early. By the time I was getting home from work I was DONE for the day, so needless to say, exercise was non-existent. I decided I needed to get up about 30 minutes earlier to get on the exercise bike, and I bribed myself with a show I was watching at the time. I made a deal with myself that I would not watch the show unless I was on the bike - and it worked! I couldn't wait to get up in the morning and start watching, and now, even though I have long since finished the show, this early-morning exercise routine has become a habit!

I have been told that I was singing before I could talk. I was born into a musical family, and singing was my passion. I was in children's choir at church, and in school. I also was part of the Metroplex Children's choir, and All-Area Choir in Middle School. I performed many solos and was even "Susie Snowflake" in my middle school Christmas Concert. Somewhere along the way, I stopped singing publicly, but I am CONSTANTLY humming and I know just about every word to most popular songs, and sing along with them loudly in my car. I sing to my students and make up silly songs, and it has always been a secret dream of mine to be a Disney Princess. (Watch out Elsa!)

Maybe my dream could come true? This was a fun art project that my students did. I just had to join them!

For this project, you print out a picture of yourself and trace around the picture with a sharpie. You flip the picture over and color it in like a coloring sheet. SO FUN!

Don't Judge. I was having fun with a new app I found... Yeah...I sit around and sing to myself...in my closet...

I was that girl - the 7 year old going on 17. I always wanted to do what the "older girls" were doing, and liked to be involved with the adults. I was sort of a care-taker big sister to my little brother, and loved helping my mom around the house. I mentioned earlier that I feel like being diagnosed with diabetes at such a young age made me more responsible, and I think this may have had a hand in my maturity. Even now, most of my friends are older, and I have always had a mind for the future. I am a planner and like to know what is ahead!

Ok...not THAT old...

This was made using a fun app called Aging Booth. We use this app on the 100th day of school. We take a picture of each student and make them look old, then they write about how life will be when they are 100.

I am often called creative but as I think about my creativity I realize it is motivated by the cost of the items that interest me. When I see something I like (usually home decor wise) I immediately start thinking about how to make it cheaper....

My Cake-Stand DIY

The Inspiration:

I needed a cake stand for the wedding day but when I looked online for what I wanted I was not going to spend the $60 plus for one!

The Materials:

I picked up some little wooden circles from Hobby Lobby, and from Home Depot I got a 15 inch wood circle and the foot to a chair ( I think that's what that is...). I screwed/wood glued the whole thing together and voila!

My Version:

I think it turned out pretty well! I even personalized it with my soon-to-be last name, using a small Dremel file. Super fun!

This project was SUPER easy. 1. Take wood off of a pallet (hardest part right there) 2. Cut the ends of each piece of wood at a 45 degree angle. 3. Stain each piece to your liking. 4. Attach boards together with a bracket on the back. 5. Hang!

Now If I could just figure out how to make those sliding barn doors...
